Why LFGB Matters for the EU Market
LFGB (Lebensmittel- und Futtermittelgesetzbuch) is Germany's food and commodities act — and the strictest food-contact safety standard in Europe. It tests whether harmful chemicals migrate from the cup into your drink under extreme conditions: 100°C for 24 hours in acidic, alcoholic, and fatty simulants. Passing LFGB is significantly harder than basic EU 1935/2004 compliance, which only requires self-declaration of safety.
For EU businesses, LFGB certification is more than a legal checkbox. German authorities mandate it for any food-contact material sold in Germany, and buyers across France, Spain, Italy, and the Nordics treat LFGB as the quality benchmark that goes beyond the legal minimum. It signals that your cups are safe for daily use with hot coffee, acidic juices, and alcoholic beverages — without any chemical leaching.
Our Calix PE cups passed all 6 LFGB migration tests with ND (Not Detected) results. Zero leaching into acidic, alcoholic, or fatty simulants — even at boiling temperatures for a full 24 hours. This is the highest achievable pass level.
LFGB Migration Test Results
Each test simulates real-world conditions your cups will encounter. Results show zero migration across all parameters.
Simulates acidic beverages like tomato juice, citrus drinks, and vinegar-based sauces. 100°C tests hot-fill conditions — cup must not leach when filled with boiling coffee.
Simulates alcoholic beverages and oil-in-water emulsions. 70°C represents hot serving temperatures for soups and hot drinks.
Tests worst-case migration with concentrated ethanol. If a cup passes this, it will not leach into any real-world beverage.
Tests for 19 heavy metals including lead, cadmium, and mercury. Essential for ensuring cups are safe for long-term daily use.
Phthalates are plasticizers linked to endocrine disruption. All 16 compounds tested below limit of quantification — zero detectable.
Vinyl chloride monomer is a known carcinogen. Zero detected — critical for cups used with hot beverages.
